Fla. Mother: School Did Nothing After My 6th-Grader Was Attacked

Florida’s Nicki Lee was fuming when she saw footage of her sixth-grade daughter being pummeled by other students on a school bus in mid-January, but what upset Lee even more is that neither the bus driver nor Jacksonville school officials did anything about it, WSOC TV reports.

“They basically beat her like she was nothing,” Lee said about her daughter’s attackers.

Footage from the video shows Lee’s daughter sustaining multiple blows from at least two female students. Lee’s daughter said that the bus driver didn’t do anything to stop the fight; nor did she reprimand the students afterward.

“All she asked me was do I get off here,” Lee’s daughter said, adding that the bus driver let all the other students off at their usual stops, as if the incident hadn’t happened.

Lee went to Jacksonville Middle School the next day to report the attack to the dean and was told that an investigation would be launched. She found the school’s response to be lackluster, however, since the students who had allegedly beaten her daughter “were still allowed to be in school that day,” Lee said.

Lee then went to WFOX TV to bring more attention to the incident and to what she feels was an inappropriate response by school officials.

“I don’t think [school officials] acted fast enough. Matter of fact, I don’t think they would’ve known about it if I didn’t proceed with caution to see what’s going on with my daughter,” Lee said.

According to a statement from the school district, the students involved in the attack “are being disciplined according to the Code of Conduct. A full investigation is underway to identify additional participants and the person(s) videotaping.”

Loretta Lynch Tastefully Distances Herself From Obama and Holder During Confirmation Hearing
